Regional Cooperation for Development is an abbreviation for the Regional Cooperation for Development (RCD), an organization for three Middle Eastern and South Asian countries. The Central Treaty Organization (CENTO), a regional military bloc established in 1955, formed the RCD in 1965 in an effort to develop economic cooperation relations as the Cold War waned. The three member countries are Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey, and the headquarters is located in Tehran. Its purpose is to promote joint planning in the areas of communications, technology, education, and health on a regional basis. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
