Ongut - Ongut (English spelling) Öngüd

Japanese: オングート - おんぐーと（英語表記）Öngüd

A nomadic tribe that lived in the Yinshan Mountains on the Mongolian Plateau from the Liao Dynasty through the Mongol Empire and the Yuan Dynasty. Turkic. Translated as Wang Gusse. Their base was in Oron Sum, north of the Yinshan Mountains. They submitted to the Liao and Jin Dynasties and were responsible for defending the northern border of both dynasties. When Genghis Khan rose to power in the early 13th century, their tribal leader Alakshi Digit Khuri willingly submitted, and since then, successive tribal leaders have been given the title of king and daughter of the imperial family. The Onghut tribe were devout Nestorian sects, but during the Yuan Dynasty, a considerable number of them became Catholics.

遼以後モンゴル帝国，元代までモンゴル高原の陰山山脈付近にいた遊牧民族。トルコ系。汪古惕と漢音訳される。根拠地は陰山山脈北方のオロン･スム。遼，金に服属し，両王朝の北辺防衛の任に当たり，13世紀初めチンギス･ハーンが勃興すると，その部族長アラクシ･ディギト･クリはすすんで服属し，以来歴代部族長は皇室の娘と王号を与えられた。オングート部はネストリウス派を熱心に信仰していたが，元代にはカトリックの信者もかなり出た。
