Abbreviation for Min-On Association. A music appreciation group established in 1963 at the suggestion of then Soka Gakkai president Ikeda Daisaku with the aim of popularizing music education, nurturing musicians, and promoting folk culture (became a foundation in 1965). As of 1983, 11 Min-On groups have been established in different regions, including Tokyo Min-On, and hold concerts, competitions, contemporary music composition festivals, and more. 民主音楽協会の略称。1963年音楽教育の普及,音楽家の育成,民衆文化の興隆を目的に,当時の創価学会会長池田大作の提唱で設立された音楽鑑賞団体(1965年財団法人となる)。83年現在,東京民音をはじめ11民音が地方別に設立されており,音楽会,コンクール,現代作曲音楽祭などを開催している。また,民音音楽資料館を開設しており,レコード,楽譜,書籍などを所蔵している。【上野 博正】
