Alonso was also a Mannerist who studied in Florence and Rome from 1504 to 1517, and was the leading figure in 16th-century Spanish sculpture. His work is characterized by expressionistic depictions of tall figures with intense movement, and the strong, glossy, warm colors enhance this effect. …
