Jorinji Temple Site

Japanese:
Jorinji Temple Site
The site of a temple in Dongnam-ri, Buyeo-eup, Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea. Large-scale excavations were carried out in 1942-43 and 1979-80. The main temple complex is arranged in a straight line along a north-south axis, with the central gate, tower, main hall, and lecture hall from the south, surrounded by a corridor. Currently, the original five-story stone pagoda and a Goryeo-period 180cm stone Buddha statue remain in the center of the former lecture hall. Roof tiles dating from the end of the Baekje period, through the Unified Silla period, and up to the Goryeo period have been excavated from the temple site. Among the Goryeo-period flat tiles, there is one with the inscription Jeongrimsa, dated 8th year of Taepyeong (1028), which suggests that the temple continued to exist continuously, suggesting that the name Jeongrimsa dates back to the Baekje period.
