Kamitakara [village] - Kamitakara

Japanese: 上宝[村] - かみたから

A village in Yoshiki County, northeastern Gifu Prefecture. Population 4,083 (1995). Located in the upper reaches of the Takahara River, which is upstream of the Jinzu River, the village borders Toyama Prefecture to the north and Nagano Prefecture to the east, with the Hida Mountains including Mt. Okuhotaka and Mt. Yari as its borders. Most of the village area is mountainous, but river terraces have developed along the Takahara River, with settlements scattered on the terraces. The only cultivated land in the village is on the Hongo Plateau. Agriculture and forestry are the main industries, but tourism is also an important industry, thanks to the mountains of Chubu Sangaku National Park and abundant hot springs. Hot springs such as Tochio, Hirayu, and Hitoegane line the main tributaries of the Takahara River, forming the Oku-Hida hot spring resort area.

岐阜県北東端，吉城（よしき）郡の村。人口4083(1995)。神通川上流の高原川上流域に位置し，奥穂高岳，槍ヶ岳をはじめとする飛驒山脈を境に，北は富山県，東は長野県に接する。村域の大部分が山地帯であるが，高原川沿いには河岸段丘が発達し，段丘上に集落が点在する。本郷台地上には村内唯一の耕地が開ける。農林業を主とするが，中部山岳国立公園の山岳と豊富な温泉に恵まれて観光も重要な産業である。高原川の本支流沿いには栃尾，平湯，一重ヶ根などの温泉が並び奥飛驒温泉郷を形成する。
