Japanese: うどんこ病 - うどんこびょう

A disease that causes the leaves and young branches of plants to appear as if they are covered in white powder. It is also called white mildew. It occurs on many crops and trees, such as barley, wheat, cucumber, strawberry, rose, Euonymus japonicus, and oak, as well as on weeds such as plantain and Lactuca sativa. The powdery mildew fungus (also called powdery mildew) that attacks each plant is a different species, and as a single fungus, its range of infection is narrow. When powdery mildew is actively spreading, it is transmitted through the air by conidia, and during winter and summer it is active in the mycelium and ascocysts.

植物の葉や若い枝に，白い粉をまぶしたような症状を呈する病気。白渋病ともいう。オオムギ，コムギ，キュウリ，イチゴ，バラ，マサキ，カシなど多くの作物･樹木のほか，オオバコ，アキノノゲシなど雑草にも発生が見られる。それぞれの植物を侵すうどんこ病菌(ウドンコカビともいう)は別種であって，1種類の菌としては寄生範囲は狭い。うどんこ病が盛んにまんえんする時期には分生子によって空気伝染し，越冬･越夏には菌糸や子囊殻が働く。
