Hartlaub, GF (English spelling) HartlaubGF

...Neue Sachlichkeit. The term was given to the new representational tendency in German art after World War I, and is derived from the name of an art exhibition (1925) organized by Gustav Friedrich Hartlaub (1884-1963), the director of the Mannheim Art Museum. Influenced by Italian metaphysical painting and pseudoclassicism during and after World War I, neoclassicism by Picasso and others, and Dada's tendency toward objectivity, various tendencies to grasp events with a calm visual sense emerged in Germany after the defeat, as a reaction against the apocalyptic, abstract, and passionate expressionism of the prewar period.
