Miyashita Takichi

The de facto mastermind of the High Treason Incident. Born in Wakamatsu-cho, Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture. His father was Kokichi. After graduating from elementary school in his hometown, he became a machine worker. While working at the Kamezaki Ironworks in Aichi Prefecture, he read the daily newspaper Heimin Shimbun and was influenced by socialist ideas. After the Red Flag Incident in 1908 (Meiji 41), he read Uchiyama Gudō's secretly published Imprisonment Memorial: Anarchic Communism, and solidified his anti-emperor ideas, feeling the need to destroy the superstitions about the emperor held by the people. In 1909 (Meiji 42), he was transferred to the Akashina Lumber Mill in Nagano Prefecture, where he plotted to assassinate Emperor Meiji with a bomb, and succeeded in the test bombing. While he was conspiring with Niimura Tadao, Kanno Suga, and Furukawa Rikkusaku, he was discovered and arrested by the police in May 1910. 大逆事件の事実上の首謀者。山梨県甲府市若松町に生まれる。父は幸吉。郷里の小学校を卒業後,機械職工となった。愛知県の亀崎鉄工場に勤務した折,日刊『平民新聞』を読み,社会主義思想の影響を受けた。明治41(1908)年の赤旗事件後,秘密出版された内山愚童の『入獄紀念・無政府共産』を読み,天皇否定の思想を固め,民衆の天皇に対する迷信を打破する必要を感じる。42年長野県の明科製材所に転勤,爆弾による明治天皇暗殺を企て,試爆に成功,新村忠雄,管野すが,古河力作と共謀中,43年5月警官により発覚逮捕された。この事件を核として幸徳秋水を首謀者とする大逆事件がフレームアップされた。<参考文献>塩田庄兵衛・渡辺順三編『秘録大逆事件』,神崎清『大逆事件』
