Laue condition

This is a relationship that gives the conditions for X-ray diffraction by a crystal lattice. It was derived by M. Laue in 1912. When X-rays of wavelength λ incident from the s ₀ (unit vector) direction on a crystal lattice with translational periods a , b , and c simultaneously satisfy the following equations, strong diffracted X-rays are produced in the s direction.

a・₍ s － s0 )＝ hλ

b ₍ s - s0 ) = k λ

c ₍ s - s0 ) = l λ

Here, h , k , and l are integers called the Laue exponents. The conditions under which diffraction lines appear as indicated by this relationship are called the Laue condition. This is the basic condition for X-ray diffraction by crystals, and is equivalent to the Bragg condition.

結晶格子によるX線回折の条件を与える関係式．1912年，M. Laue(ラウエ)により導かれた．並進周期a，b，cの結晶格子に対し，s₀(単位ベクトル)方向から入射した波長λのX線が次の式を同時に満足したときに，s方向に強い回折X線を生じる．

a・(s － s₀) ＝ hλ

b・(s － s₀) ＝ kλ

c・(s － s₀) ＝ lλ

ここで，h，k，lは整数でラウエの指数とよばれる．この関係式により示される回折線の現れる条件をラウエ条件という．これは結晶によるX線の回折の基本となる条件で，ブラッグ条件と同等である．
