Hirate Brewery - Hirate Miki

Japanese:
Hirate Brewery - Hirate Miki
Year of death: 1844.9.18 (1844.9.18)
Year of birth: Unknown. A bodyguard for gamblers in the late Edo period, and a wandering ronin. His real name was Hirata Fukaki. His given name was also written as Fukaki or Mikame. According to one theory, after a period of wandering, he was taken refuge with a village headman in Katori County, Shimousa Province (Chiba Prefecture), where he opened a sword-fighting dojo. It is said that in 1844 (Tenpo 15), he joined Iioka Sukegoro in the capture of gambler Sasagawa Shigezo and his gang on the banks of the Tone River, and was killed while assisting Shigezo. In the later storytelling and rokyoku "Tenpo Suikoden," he is portrayed as a master of the Hokushin Itto-ryu style of swordsmanship trained at the Chiba dojo in Otamaike, Edo, and a wandering ronin who had fallen ill, and became a character that was just as popular as Shigezo and Sukegoro.
