Hosho paper

Hosho paper
Washi paper made by hand from paper mulberry with the addition of rice flour or white clay. It was named after the fact that it was used for hosho paper. It is pure white, thick, soft, and elegant. Colored hosho paper is also available. Fukui Prefecture is famous for its use. It is used for ceremonial documents, catalogs, ceremonial wrapping, talismans, woodblock prints, etc. There is also machine-made hosho paper made from chemical pulp, but it is of inferior quality. → Echizen hosho paper / Imadate [town]

コウゾを原料とし,米粉または白土を加えて手すきした和紙。奉書に用いられたのでこの名がある。純白で,厚く,柔らかく,優美。着色した色奉書紙もある。福井県産が有名。用途は礼式文書,目録,儀式の包飾,神符,木版画などの用紙。化学パルプを原料とした機械ずきのものもあるが,品質は劣る。→越前奉書/今立[町]
