Baroque was introduced to Slovenia, Croatia, and Dalmatia from Vienna, Graz, and Venice in the 17th century. In Serbia, under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, the tradition was preserved to a small extent in the monastery of Fruška Gora, but it was not until the end of the 17th century that Western influence was seen, and while following the iconography of the Eastern Orthodox Church, they began to learn Baroque. The first result was the fresco painted in 1737 by Macedonian Hristifor Žefarović (?-1753) in the monastery of Bodjani, and its unique style is reminiscent of the naive movement, one of the characteristics of modern art. …
