The title of a Yamada-style koto piece. Okutegotokyoku. Composed by Yamase Shoin I. It was performed at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Music School building in 1890, and became popular. It is said that Nagase Katsuoichi and Kushida Eisei assisted in the composition. The lyrics were written by Nabeshima Naohiro, who served as the lord of Saga. The song is about the spring scenery of the capital, and celebrates the development of the world. It is structured as an introduction - an introduction song - an interlude - a middle song - a tegoto - a final song. The introduction is an introduction from Yamada Kengyo's "Azuma no Hana", the interlude is a part of the tegoto from Matsuura Kengyo's "Midnight Moon", and the tegoto is the melody from "Zangetsu". Techniques such as sukui-zume and hajiki are used, and it is known as a gorgeous piece with a strong instrumental quality, even though Yamada-style koto music is centered on songs. The koto is played in a han-kumoi-cho (half-wind) to yo-agari-hira-cho (four-wind) tuning. The sangen is played in a hon-cho (hon-wind) to ni-agari (four-wind) tuning. This is a Yamada style piece, but exceptionally uses a lead string (daihirokoma) on the sangen.
