A Danrin haiku poet from the early Edo period. His real surname was Mitsui, but he called himself Oyodo. His given name was Yukan, and he had over twenty other pseudonyms, including Baisui, Donkuu, Gugendou, and Touou Koji. He was born into a merchant family in Izawa, Ise Province (Matsusaka City), but he aspired to become a haiku poet early on, and went to Matsushima in the autumn of his 31st year. He lived in Sendai for 15 years, publishing "Sendai Oyakazu" and "Matsushima Choboshu." From 1683 (Tenwa 3), he traveled around the country for seven years, and compiled "Nihon Koi Pai Bunshu." In 1695 (Genroku 8), he rebuilt a hermitage at Oiso Shigitatsusawa, the remains of Saigyo. He passed away in his hometown on January 8, 4th year of the Hoei Era. His grave is in the Izawa Public Cemetery. He is the editor and author of "Hōgo Sannin Monogatari" and "Wakan Tōchōshū". [Masaru Okamoto] A skylark falls, stepping on the crescent moon.
