Abe no Uchimaro - Abe no Uchimaro

The first Minister of the Left. His name was Kurahashimaro. After Soga no Iruka was killed and Emperor Kōtoku ascended to the throne, he was immediately appointed Minister of the Left and participated in the core of the Taika Reforms. However, it is doubtful whether he actively put forward innovative policies. His daughter, Otarashihime, had become Emperor Kōtoku's wife before he ascended to the throne, so he was likely appointed Minister of the Left out of virtue as an elder of the vassals. In 648 (Taika 4), he invited monks and nuns to Shitennoji Temple, received four Buddha statues and placed them in the tower, and created a statue of Mount Vulture. He was called Minister Otori.

最初の左大臣。一名倉梯麻呂(くらはしまろ)。蘇我入鹿(そがのいるか)が殺され孝徳(こうとく)天皇が即位するとただちに左大臣に任命され、大化改新の枢機に参画した。しかし積極的に革新的政策を打ち出したかどうか疑わしい。その女(むすめ)小足媛(おたらしひめ)は孝徳即位前にその妃となっていたので、臣下の長老として徳望から左大臣に任ぜられたものであろう。648年（大化4）に四天王寺に僧尼を請(しょう)じ4躯(く)の仏像を迎え塔内に安置し、霊鷲山(りょうじゅせん)の像をつくった。大鳥大臣と号した。
