Minogai (minogai) - File shell
A bivalve mollusks of the family Lycaenidae (illustration). The shell is white and fan-shaped, 7.5 cm long, 9.5 cm high, and bulges to 3.3 cm. It is tough, with small triangular protrusions in front and behind the apex. There are about 20 radial ribs on the surface, with a row of scale-like projections on top. The inside is white, and there is a belt holder under the apex on which a black belt is placed. The edge of the mantle membrane of the soft body has a purplish-white tuft. The feet are small, but they extend byssus to attach to rocks. It is widely distributed from the Boso Peninsula south to the tropical Pacific Ocean, living on rocky bottoms from the intertidal zone to depths of 10 m.

ミノガイ科の二枚貝(イラスト)。殻は白色で扇形,長さ7.5cm,高さ9.5cm,膨らみ3.3cmに達する。堅固で,殻頂の前後に小さい三角形のでっぱりがある。表面には20本内外の放射状の肋があり,その上には鱗片状の突起が並ぶ。内面は白色で,殻頂の下に黒い弾帯をのせた弾帯受けがある。軟体の外套(がいとう)膜の縁には帯紫白色の房がある。足は小さいが,足糸を出して岩に付着する。房総半島以南~熱帯太平洋に広く分布し,潮間帯より水深10mの岩れき底にすむ。
