…In 1953, he became a professor at Showa Medical College. In 1955, he published his first collection of haiku, Katsushika. Its fresh, lyrical world captivated young haiku poets, sparking a new wave of haiku and nurturing such poets as Ishida Hakyo and Kato Shuson.
