Born March 5, 1928. American business scholar. Studied at the University of Chicago and Stanford University, majored in psychology at Harvard University, and received his doctorate there in 1953. Taught at Stanford and Harvard, and moved to MIT in 1956 to teach organizational psychology, where he later became a professor. He is also in charge of social psychology at the Sloan School of Management's Organization Studies Group, and has been active in a variety of government and academic institutions. He is known for his pioneering work in organizational psychology, and for his research on manager training, attitude and value change, and organizational reform, and is one of the scholars who aim to establish a behavioral science theory of organizations.
