A poet from the Hijaz region of the Arabian Peninsula during the Umayyad Dynasty around 701. He was a member of the Udhra tribe, a nomadic tribe renowned for their poetic talent. He loved and proposed to Buthayna, a woman from the same tribe, but she rejected him. He continued to yearn for her, meet her, and write poems about her after she married someone else, so he was banished from his tribe and wandered through Yemen and Egypt, dying while expressing his pure love for her in his poetry. Later, he became the protagonist of the tragic love story of Jameel and Buthayna, and his style of poetry is representative of the desert pure love tendency of the series of ghazals, and is known as the Udhra school, named after the tribe he came from.
