Midagahara

Japanese: 弥陀ヶ原 - みだがはら
Midagahara

A lava plateau spreading to the west of Mt. Tateyama in the southeastern part of Toyama Prefecture. The plateau was formed by pyroclastic flows from the second active period of the old Tateyama volcano, and subsequent volcanic mudflows are on top of it. It is eroded by the Shomyo River on the north side and the Joganji River on the south side, and in a broad sense, it refers to about 9 kilometers from Murododaira (2,450 meters) in the east to Bijodaira (1,000 meters) in the west, but in a narrow sense, the widest area in the center is called Midagahara. It is about 2 kilometers from north to south, and the highest point is 2,621 meters. It is a high-altitude marsh zone with communities of numagama and Iwaichou, and is dotted with ponds called gakida. Aomoridomatsu and Erman's birch can be seen on the slopes. The Tateyama Kogen bus road runs through it.
