[Origin and spread of trousers]
The traditional legwear of the Arabian culture, shalwar, is said to be a corrupted Persian word in many cases, but in the ancient Iranian culture before the advent of Islam, long trousers called anaxarides by the Greeks were in common use from early on. However, the origin of trousers needs to be traced back not only to Persia, but also to the society of the steppe nomads of ancient West and Central Asia in general.
