Japanese: ミソサザイ(鷦鷯) - ミソサザイ

A general term for birds in the family Troglodytidae, or one of the species. Troglodytidae birds are small, measuring 10-22cm in length, with most species measuring less than 15cm in length, with a long, slender beak that curves slightly downward and sturdy legs that are long for their body. Their plumage is generally brown or gray-brown above with black or white horizontal stripes, and light brown or white below. They live alone in pairs in deserts, rocky areas, marshes, and forests, and move actively around in thick brush close to the ground and among rocks, feeding on small insects and spiders.

スズメ目ミソサザイ科の鳥の総称，またはそのうちの1種を指す。ミソサザイ科Troglodytidaeの鳥は全長10～22cm，大部分の種が全長15cm以下の小型の鳥で，やや下方に曲がった細長いくちばしと体の割りには長めのしっかりした脚をもっている。羽色は一般に上面が褐色か灰褐色で，黒色や白色の横縞があり，下面は淡褐色か白色である。砂漠，岩地，湿原，森林などに単独かつがいですみ，地上近くの茂ったやぶの中や岩石の間を活発に動き回って，小型の昆虫類やクモ類を採食する。
