Fans were introduced from China and were used by aristocrats during the Nara period. Warlords in the Sengoku period used gunbai fans made of iron and leather with a lacquered finish. During the Edo period, they became more widespread with the development of bamboo crafts and paper, and fans with pictures of actors became popular. Depending on the place of production, there are Edo fans, Nara fans, Fukakusa fans, and Marugame Shibu fans, as well as fans made of silk, ajiro, and billow. → Related items Fan Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
