Mikuni [town] - Mikuni

Japanese: 三国[町] - みくに
Mikuni [town] - Mikuni
Sakai is an old town in northern Fukui Prefecture, occupying both banks of the mouth of the Kuzuryu River. Mikuni, the town in the center, is on the right bank of the river mouth. In early modern times, it was an important port on the coastal route and was said to be the number one port in the northern regions. However, it fell off the Hokuriku Main Line and later developed as a fishing port, and the Echizen Railway runs through it. In addition to fishing, it is famous for its scallion cultivation at Sanrihama. Tojinbo, Echizen Matsushima, Oshima and other areas belong to the Echizen Kaga Coast Quasi-National Park. In March 2006, it merged with Maruoka Town, Harue Town, and Sakai Town in Sakai County to become a city, Sakai City. 46.42 km2 . Population 24,019 (2003).
