A legendary martyr from Rome in the 3rd century. Cecilia in Italian, Cecilia in English. A daughter of an aristocrat, she converted to Christianity at a young age, persuaded her pagan fiancé Valerian and his brother Tiburtius to be baptized, and dedicated her virginity to Christ. She refused to worship pagan idols, and was suffocated in her bath, but survived. Her neck was cut with a sword three more times, and she was finally martyred three days later. 伝説的な色彩の濃い,3世紀ローマの殉教聖女。イタリア語でチェチーリアCecilia,英語でセシリアCecilia。貴族の娘で,若くしてキリスト教に帰依し,異教徒の婚約者ウァレリアヌスとその弟ティブルティウスを説いて受洗させ,自らはその純潔をキリストに捧げた。異教の偶像礼拝を拒み,風呂場で窒息させられるが生き永らえ,さらに3回首を剣で切りつけられ,3日後にようやく殉教。遺骸はカリストゥスの地下墓所に葬られた。
