Ashimori Domain

Japanese:
Ashimori Domain

A Tozama domain in Bitchu Province (Okayama Prefecture). The lord of the domain was the Kinoshita clan. The founder of the domain was Iesada, the older brother of Kodai-in (Toyotomi Hideyoshi's wife). He served Hideyoshi and was granted 25,000 koku of land in Himeji, but after the Battle of Sekigahara, he was given 25,000 koku in the Bitchu Kayo and Kamiboso counties. In 1609 (Keicho 14), the domain was discontinued when Tokugawa Ieyasu angered him over the inheritance of the land left by his eldest son Katsutoshi. After the restoration of Ashimori Domain, the founder of the domain was Katsutoshi's younger brother Toshifusa. He initially served Hideyoshi and was granted 20,000 koku of land in Wakasa Province (Fukui Prefecture) and was made the lord of Takahama Castle, but after the Battle of Sekigahara, his land was confiscated. Later, in 1615 (Genwa 1), they were pardoned and given 25,000 koku in the Bitchu Kayo and Kamiboso counties, and established a jin'ya (camp) in Ashimori. However, until the land survey in 1645 (Shoho 2), they appointed the local village headman Toba clan as the deputy magistrate and ordered him to collect taxes. After the land survey, they strengthened their control over the territory by appointing county magistrates and magistrates. In 1799 (Kansei 11) during the reign of the eighth lord, Toshiyoshi, over 22,280 koku of the internal tax (actual tax) of over 30,854 koku was confiscated, and they were given replacement land in the Date and Shinobu counties of Mutsu Province. During the reign of the tenth lord, Toshichika, over 11,144 koku of land was transferred from the Mutsu domain to Kaya County in 1831 (Tenpo 2), which led to the Meiji Restoration.
