...The next Khan, Mangu Timur (1266-82), intervened in the so-called Haidu Rebellion (1266-1304) between Kublai Khan and Haidu for the title of Great Khan, and the Kipchak Khanate gained the status of an independent state. It reached its peak in the first half of the 14th century under the father and son duo Uzbek (1312-42) and Janibek (1342-57). The Uzbek Khans made Islam their state religion, established New Sarai as their capital, built mosques and other buildings, and promoted commerce and handicrafts.
