A city occupying the southern tip of the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1955. Its center is Misaki, an excellent port with Jogashima acting as a natural breakwater. In the early modern period, it developed as a refuge port for cargo ships connecting Kamigata and Edo, and in modern times as a base for tuna deep-sea fishing and a tourist base for Jogashima, Aburatsubo Bay, and Kenzaki. On the plateau, forced cultivation of vegetables such as Miura radishes is popular. In 1975, the Keihin Kyuko Kurihama Line was extended to Misakiguchi, and residential development is progressing. 32.05 km2 . Population 48,352 (2010). 神奈川県三浦半島南端部を占める市。1955年市制。中心は城ヶ島が天然の防波堤をなす良港の三崎で,近世に上方と江戸を結ぶ回船の避難港,近代にはマグロ遠洋漁業根拠地,城ヶ島,油壺湾,剣崎の観光基地として発展。台地では三浦ダイコンなど野菜の促成栽培が盛ん。1975年三崎口まで京浜急行久里浜線が通じ,宅地化が進んでいる。32.05km2。4万8352人(2010)。
