Order Arachnida, Family Orbweedida. Body length is 1cm for females and 0.6-0.7cm for males. Color varies greatly from gray to black. They spin circular webs under the eaves of houses or between nearby trees, destroying the old one when spinning a new one. They are often seen around fluorescent lights in train stations and near the lights of vending machines. They are widely distributed in temperate regions around the world. クモ綱クモ目コガネグモ科。体長は雌 1cm,雄 0.6~0.7cm。個体により色彩変異が著しく,灰色から黒色のものまである。人家の軒下や付近の樹間などに円網を張るが,新しい網を張るときは古い網を壊す。駅構内のケイ光灯のまわりや,自動販売機のあかりの近くでしばしばみられる。世界の温帯地方に広く分布する。 (→クモ類 )
