Born June 30, 1911 in Shatynya, Lithuania [Died] August 14, 2004. Krakow, Poland. Polish exiled poet, novelist, and critic. Known in the West as Miloš. He participated in underground publishing activities in Warsaw during World War II, and was active as a diplomat after the war, but became disillusioned with the Stalin regime and went into exile in 1951, working in France and then in the United States. He received the European Literature Prize for his novel Zdobycie Władzy; Seizure of Power (1953). He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1980. His main works include "Poemat o czasie zastygłym" (1933), "Traktat poetycki" (1957), and "History of Polish Literature" (1969).
