Sunda Strait - Sunda Kaikyo (English spelling) Selat Sunda

A strait in western Indonesia between the islands of Sumatra and Java. It is about 25-100 km wide, 150 km long, and 60-80 m deep. It is an important waterway connecting the Indian Ocean and the Java Sea, and many large and small islands are scattered within the strait. In particular, the volcanic island of Krakatoa (813 m above sea level) is located in the center of the strait and is currently erupting. There are lighthouses to ensure the safety of ship navigation. On the Sumatran side of the strait, there are port cities such as Teluk Betung and Kota Agung.

インドネシア西部、スマトラ島とジャワ島の間にある海峡。幅約25～100キロメートル、長さ約150キロメートル、水深60～80メートル。インド洋とジャワ海を結ぶ重要な水路で、海峡内には大小の島々が散在する。とくに火山島のクラカタウ島（標高813メートル）が、海峡の中心部にあり、噴火活動を行っている。船舶の航行の安全を確保するために灯台が完備している。海峡には、スマトラ島側にテルクベトゥン、コタアグンなどの港湾都市がある。
