...The Tokushima Domain, however, focused on the profits of Awa indigo, and in 1733 (Kyoho 18), established the "Indigo Bureau" and embarked on a policy that could be called a monopoly on indigo leaves, including the collection of tax on indigo leaves. However, the "Indigo Ball Rebellion" (Goshamiya Incident, demanding the abolition of tax on indigo leaves and indigo farmers' stocks) in 1756 (Horeki 6) caused a major decline in the domain's control, and the Indigo Bureau was abolished.
