…He was born into a Russian noble family. His elder brother, Ivan Vasil'evich Kireevskii (1806-56), was a leading Slavophile. In the mid-1820s, he studied Schelling's philosophy at Prince VF Odoevsky's Philosophical Society and was influenced by German Romanticism. In 1830, he traveled to Germany to study and became acquainted with Schelling and Hegel. In 1832, he founded the magazine "European" and wrote the lead article "The 19th Century," in which he advocated the integration of Russia with Western Europe as a Christian world.
