A traditional Japanese game. It is also called "Mawari Mawari no Kobotoke," "Naka no Naka no Kobotoke," "Naka no Naka no Jizo-san," or simply "Kobotoke." It is a game similar to "Kagome Kagome," in which children join hands to form a circle, and a blindfolded little Buddha (also called Jizo or Kobo) enters the circle. The children circle around it singing cheery words, and when the child finishes singing and bends down, the little Buddha catches him and guesses his name. The one who is guessed correctly becomes a little Buddha. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
