Clothing and Crown - Ikan

Japanese:
Clothing and Crown - Ikan

A type of attire worn by male nobles. It was not worn by the emperor, but was used as a semi-formal attire since the Heian period, as a casual version of sokutai. While sokutai is called daytime attire, ikkan is also called night duty attire. In the Kamakura period, it also came to be worn when attending court service. It consists of a crown, a robe, an akome (sometimes omitted), a hitoe (single layered robe), sashi-nuki (short sleeved robe), and a pair of sandals instead of an ue-no-hakama (front hakama). It is a rank robe like the sokutai and nunohakama robes, but swords are not usually worn, and ketteki robes are not used. In addition, since the stone belt is not used, a silk belt is used to tie the waist instead, and the hem of the garment and the appearance of the garment are different from that of the sokutai. In addition, since the ikekan is a variation of the morning dress, a crown is always worn.
