...The cape, with its highest point of 741m, drops steeply into the sea, creating a rugged landscape. It was named in 1879 in honor of Semyon Ivanovich Dezhnyov, who sailed along the coast of the Chukot Peninsula in 1648. In Japan, it is often called Cape Dezhnev.
