Located in the northeast of Sicily in southern Italy, it is the highest active volcano in Europe. It is a conical stratovolcano made mainly of basalt, with two craters. There are over 80 recorded eruptions since 475 BC, the most recent being in 1669 and 1992. Grains, citrus fruits, grapes, and other crops are cultivated at altitudes of 1,000 to 1,500 meters.
