Around 1710-74 He was the greatest founder of the many mystical secret societies that sprang up in 18th-century Europe. Much about his life remains unknown, and there is no established theory about his origins. Around 1754, he founded a cult called "Elu Cohen" in various parts of France, aiming to resurrect and regenerate humans and nature through "necromancy." His theosophy, which included his own theory of cosmogenesis and eschatology, was widely spread throughout Europe through the works of his famous disciple, Saint-Martin.
