Spanish sculptor. Born in Alcalá la Real, Jaén, and died in Seville. He was the leading figure in the Sevillian school of wooden painted icon sculpture in the first half of the 17th century, and designed numerous altar screens for monasteries and churches in Andalusia and the New World, as well as carving the accompanying sculptures and images of the Passion for religious processions. In contrast to the strong expressionism of the Castilian school, represented by G. Fernández, he delicately harmonized realism and idealization, and left behind many works that had a sweet religious quality reminiscent of Murillo, as well as a strong sense of tranquil, meditative mysticism.

スペインの彫刻家。ハエン県アルカラ･ラ･レアールAlcalá la Realに生まれ，セビリャで没。17世紀前半のセビリャ派木造彩色聖像彫刻の総帥で，アンダルシアや新大陸の修道院や教会堂用に数多くの祭壇衝立を設計，その付属彫刻や宗教行列用の受難像を刻んだ。G.フェルナンデスに代表されるカスティリャ派の強烈な表現主義に対して，写実と理想化を微妙に調和させ，ムリーリョに通じる甘美な宗教性と静謐で瞑想的な神秘性の強い作品を数多く残した。
