Born: 19 January 399, Constantinople [Died] 453. Wife of the Eastern Roman Emperor Marcian. Daughter of Emperor Arcadius. As the sister of Theodosius II, she oversaw state affairs and was always opposed to Nestorianism and Monophysitism. At the request of the orthodox Christian Pope Leo I, she convened the Council of Chalcedon and succeeded in expelling the Nestorians.
