Malipiero

Japanese:
Malipiero
Italian composer. He studied in his hometown of Venice and Bologna, and discovered the music of 16th-18th century Italian composers such as Monteverdi and Frescobaldi at the Marco Library in Venice. In 1913, he met Casella in Paris, and was deeply impressed when he attended the premiere of The Rite of Spring. After that, influenced by Debussy and Stravinsky, he sought a style based on the tradition of Italian music since Gregorian chant, and released orchestral pieces such as La Pause Silenta (1917) and St. Francis of Assisi for soloist, chorus and orchestra (1921). He also devoted himself to the study and editing of Italian early music, and produced great achievements such as the Complete Works of Monteverdi (1926-1942). He was known as a prolific composer, and wrote 11 symphonies (1933-1969), eight string quartets, and over 30 operas. He taught Maderna, Nono, and others at the conservatories of Parma and Venice. → Pizzetti/Respighi
