Unloading the boat

A ceremony held when a new ship is launched into the water for the first time. It is equivalent to a modern launching ceremony. Sake is offered to the ship's spirit (Funadama) placed on the ship, and the ship is rowed around the harbor three times after being purified by a priest. People often willingly engage in actions that are normally discouraged, such as taking women on board or intentionally rocking the ship, even causing it to capsize. 新造船を初めて水上へおろす時の儀礼。現在の進水式に相当。船に納めた船霊(ふなだま)に酒を供え，神官のお払いを受けて船をこぎだし，港の中を３回こぎまわる。女性を乗せたり，故意に船をゆすって極端な所では転覆させるなど，平素はきらう行為をすすんで行うことも多い。
