A ceremony held when a new ship is launched into the water for the first time. It is equivalent to a modern launching ceremony. Sake is offered to the ship's spirit (Funadama) placed on the ship, and the ship is rowed around the harbor three times after being purified by a priest. People often willingly engage in actions that are normally discouraged, such as taking women on board or intentionally rocking the ship, even causing it to capsize.
