(Chemical formula) A cyclic hydrocarbon. Also called bicyclo[2,2,1]heptane or norcamphane. It has a two-ring carbon skeleton, and a similar skeleton is found in naturally occurring terpenes (such as borneol). It is a sublimable colorless crystal with a melting point of 86-87°C and a boiling point of 105°C. It is obtained by hydrogenating norbornene, which is produced in the reaction of acetylene and cyclopentadiene. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in various organic solvents.
