Norbornane

Japanese: ノルボルナン（英語表記）norbornane

(Chemical formula) A cyclic hydrocarbon. Also called bicyclo[2,2,1]heptane or norcamphane. It has a two-ring carbon skeleton, and a similar skeleton is found in naturally occurring terpenes (such as borneol). It is a sublimable colorless crystal with a melting point of 86-87°C and a boiling point of 105°C. It is obtained by hydrogenating norbornene, which is produced in the reaction of acetylene and cyclopentadiene. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in various organic solvents. [Murai Shinji]

(化学式)環式炭化水素の一つ。ビシクロ[2,2,1]ヘプタンまたはノルカンファンnorcamphaneともいう。2環性の炭素骨格を有し，同様の骨格は天然に産するテルペン類(たとえばボルネオール)の骨格にみられる。昇華性のある無色の結晶で，融点86～87℃，沸点105℃。アセチレンとシクロペンタジエンの反応で生成するノルボルネンを水素化して得られる。水に不溶，種々の有機溶剤に可溶。【村井真二】
