Born October 23, 1844. Walmer, Kent [Died] 21 April 1930, Boar's Hill, Oxfordshire. British poet and critic. He excelled in the art of meter and paid close attention to the musical beauty of words. His representative works include Shorter Poems (5 volumes, 1890-94), New Poems (1929), and the long poem The Testament of Beauty (29). He also wrote many excellent critiques, including Milton's Prosody (1893) and John Keats (95). He was a friend of GM Hopkins, and the collection of their letters is also important.
