Mamichajinai (grey-headed thrush)

Japanese: マミチャジナイ(眉茶 - マミチャジナイ（英語表記）grey‐headed thrush

A passerine bird of the family Flycatcher. Total length about 22 cm. Males have a gray-brown head, olive brown back, and yellowish brown chest and sides. Females are duller in color overall, with a white throat and small brown spots. They breed in southeastern Siberia and Kamchatka, and migrate to Taiwan, Southeast Asia, the Malay Archipelago, and other locations in the fall and winter. They arrive in Japan as migrants in October and November in the fall, and April and May in the spring, but a very small number spend the winter there. They arrive in large numbers in the fall, a little earlier than other large thrushes.

スズメ目ヒタキ科の鳥。全長約22cm。雄は頭部が灰褐色で，背面はオリーブ褐色，胸からわきにかけては黄褐色をしている。雌は雄より全体に色がにぶく，のどは白色で褐色の小斑がある。シベリア東南部とカムチャツカで繁殖し，秋･冬季，台湾，東南アジア，マレー諸島などに渡る。日本には旅鳥として秋には10,11月，春には4,5月に渡来するが，ごく少数は越冬している。秋には渡来数が多く，ほかの大型ツグミ類より少し早く渡来する。
