A general term for birds of the passerine order Philepittidae family. The name means "eight-colored bird with eyebrows." It is endemic to Madagascar and consists of two genera, Philepitta and Neodrepanis , with four species. The two species of the Philepitta genus, P. castanea and P. schlegeli , are about 15 cm long. スズメ目マミヤイロチョウ科Philepittidaeの鳥の総称。名は〈眉のある八色鳥〉の意味。マダガスカル島の特産で,マミヤイロチョウ属Philepittaとニセタイヨウチョウ属Neodrepanisの2属4種よりなる。 マミヤイロチョウ属のビロードマミヤイロチョウP.castaneaとキバラマミヤイロチョウP.schlegeliの2種は全長約15cm。くちばしと脚は短く,翼と尾も短めで,ずんぐりした体型をしている。
