Song Ziwen

Chinese politician. Born in Guangdong Province. Graduated from Harvard University in the United States in 1915. As the son of the Soong family, one of the four major families that supported the Chinese Nationalist Party after the death of Sun Yat-sen, he joined the party and government headed by Chiang Kai-shek, and since 1928, he has served as Vice Premier of the Executive Yuan, Minister of Finance, Governor of the Central Bank, and Minister of Foreign Affairs. His lifestyle and ideas were American, and he had deep ties to the United States. In 1940, he was entrusted with being Chiang Kai-shek's personal representative to President Roosevelt, and served as China's representative at the San Francisco Peace Conference after World War II. He served as Premier of the Executive Yuan from June 1945 to 1947 during the Chinese Civil War, and used that position to accumulate wealth. When the People's Liberation Army advanced in 1949, he defected to the United States via France. He returned to Taiwan in 1963, where he spent the rest of his life.

His elder sisters were Soong Ailing (wife of Kong Xiangxi) and Soong Chingling (wife of Sun Yat-sen), and his younger sister was Soong Meiling (wife of Chiang Kai-shek).
