This refers to stone statues of people and horses arranged in ancient tombs. There are also statues of animals and weapons. Some of the human figures are three-dimensional, while others are in relief. There is a strong opinion that they are modified versions of haniwa. They are mostly found in Fukuoka, Oita, and Kumamoto prefectures, with a few in Tottori prefecture. They may also have connections to continental culture. One famous example is the Iwatoyama Tomb in Fukuoka prefecture, said to be the tomb of Iwai, the kuni no miyatsuko of Tsukushi, which is mentioned in the Chikugo no Kuni Fudoki.
