Hearing improvement surgery - Choryokukaizenshujutsu

Japanese: 聴力改善手術 - ちょうりょくかいぜんしゅじゅつ

When abnormalities in the outer or middle ear cause changes in the structures that transmit sound, leading to hearing loss, surgery can be performed to correct the problem and improve hearing. These surgeries are collectively called hearing improvement surgeries. Examples include tympanoplasty, which is performed when there are changes in the eardrum or ossicles due to chronic otitis media, stapedectomy, which is performed for otosclerosis that restricts the movement of the stapes, ear canal and tympanoplasty for congenital ear canal atresia, and reconstruction surgery for traumatic ossicular disruption. Tympanoplasty is a widely performed surgery that removes lesions and creates structures that transmit sound.

外耳や中耳の異常のため音を伝える構造に変化がおこって難聴があるとき，手術してこれを処置し，きこえをよくすることができる。これらの手術を総称して聴力改善手術という。慢性中耳炎で鼓膜や耳小骨に変化のあるとき行われる鼓室形成術，あぶみ骨の動きが悪い耳硬化症に行われるあぶみ骨切除術，先天性外耳道閉鎖症に対する外耳道･鼓室形成術，外傷性の耳小骨離断に対する再建術などがこれにあたる。鼓室形成術は，ひろく行われている手術で，病変を除去し音を伝える構造をつくる。
